ABOUT US

Janet and Clare McNamee are the mum and daughter team behind Jupiter Red, an independent textile print studio in Belfast, creating colourful printed patterns on Irish linen.

Janet graduated in Fine Art and spent many happy years working in the Irish Linen Museum and the Ulster Folk Museum, giving talks and craft workshops on all aspects of linen production. She designs the repeat patterns and screenprints our linens.

In 2022 Clare joined the team.  Clare graduated in Architecture and now divides her time between architectural projects as well as being an integral part of Jupiter Red, managing the studio and screenprinting the linens.

DESIGN & SCREENPRINTING

Design inspiration comes from daily walks, foraging for seasonal flowers.  Back in the studio, sketches and photographs are developed into repeat patterns and then printed onto linen fabric.

Screenprinting is our favourite part of the process.  We handprint the designs by using a squeegee to push ink through a silkscreen stencil.  We love the alchemy of mixing the pigments, creating colour blends and layering translucent inks.

All of the pigments and pastes used are waterbased and solvent free.

OUR LINENS

The idea behind Jupiter Red is very simple - to create a range of durable, colourful, everyday linens with a  commitment to craftsmanship and sustainability.

Linen gets better with age (just like you!)

so don't keep it tucked away for special occasions.  We have designed a range of linens for you to use and enjoy everyday.

Linen production is a very important part of Ireland's industrial heritage.  All the basecloths we use are 100% linen sourced from a local mill.  It is the most beautiful fabric to print on, absorbing the pigments to give rich and subtle colours.
